Facts and Opinions

“Butterflies are great and pretty and purple!” “Butterflies are animals that are not made of butter!” Both of these phrases sound childish. But one of them is an opinion and the other is a fact.

Facts

Facts are words that if bunched together, form a statement that is proven true. Did you ever hear someone say a sentence that you found very hard to prove wrong like “Venus is a planet” or “baseball is a sport“? That was a fact you heard. In the intro, you read another fact: “butterflies are animals that are not made of butter“. How could you prove that wrong? How do you prove that butter makes up a butterfly? You can’t. As a result, facts are true statements.

Opinions

Opinions are much different from facts. These opinions are statements that can be proven wrong. You probably heard someone say something like “that’s a very ugly painting” or “veggie pizza is very tasty” and did not agree with him/her. Above, we read, “butterflies are great and pretty and purple“. Do you think that butterflies are great and pretty and purple? Maybe or maybe not. But either ways, some think that butterflies are not great or/and not pretty or/and purple.

Facts and opinions are very different from each other.
