Why Coral Reefs are Colorful

You probably heard of coral reefs that they are homes to millions of creatures in the sea. But did you ever know why they are colorful?

Take a closer look.

Coral reefs have algae. Both benefit for each other. The algae get a place to live in and coral reefs get the food they need. Algae produce food for coral reefs. The algae always has colors that male the reef colorful. Without algae, reefs would be colorless.

Coral reefs that have no color are unhealthy because of warmer or colder water. They puff the algae out of themselves and loose color. Then, the reefs loose their food produces (algae).
