7/10 Alright, good flavour or texture, room for improvement.

8/10 Slightly better than alright. Great flavour and texture, generally tasty.

9/10 Simply delicious, wonderful flavour, texture and freshness.

10/10 The best food you could ask for.

Day 1 Lunch

Meatball submarine sandwich (baguette-style bread, tomato sauce, shredded parmesan cheese, halved meatballs) 8/10

  • The meat was well seasoned and juicy
  • Tomato sauce was overwhelming and tasted like plain tomato puree
  • Bread was super crunchy on the outside and slightly softer inside
  • Would be way tastier warm
  • Sandwich was rather long, leaving little room to enjoy other foods

Cabbage coleslaw (red cabbage slices, shredded carrots, vinegar dressing) 6/10

  • Really crunchy and moderately sour
  • The only flavour was sour

Potato wedges (thick-cut potatoes, salt, pepper) 6/10

  • Potatoes are soft
  • Outside has a little salt and parsley flakes
  • Rather soggy and burnt

Water (spring water, ice cubes) 10/10

  • OMG. This is the world’s best water, literally.

Total rating: 7.5/10

  • Tastes like a standard lunch program
  • The water saved the day

Day 1 Dinner

Chicken drumstick (chicken meat, sweet barbecue skin) 7/10

  • The chicken skin is excellent, sweet and slightly greasy
  • With slightly charred notes
  • Otherwise the chicken meat is extremely plain

Mashed potatoes (potatoes, fat source, gravy) 9/10

  • Smooth and buttery
  • A few potato skin pieces really ruined the texture
  • The gravy was hot and salty and delicious

Cornbread 5/10

  • Dense and buttery
  • Yet super dry with gritty chunks
  • Overbaked crust

Water (spring water, ice cubes) 10/10

Ice cream (vanilla or strawberry ice cream, chocolate crust, hot fudge) 7.5/10

  • Ice cream was refreshing but still very hard
  • Crust was hard, still delicious though
  • More hot fudge would be nice

Total rating: 8/10

  • Mashed potatoes and the meat made the meal feel complete
  • Cornbread could have been replaced with a standard dinner roll

Day 1 Snack

Oatmeal chocolate chip cookies 9/10

  • Chewy and a slight bit hard
  • Definitely not freshly baked

Fruits (orange slices, whole oranges, apples, bananas) 7/10

  • Orange slices were pre-cut
  • Still nice and juicy though

Total rating: 7/10

  • Nicely done but it needs a beverage

Day 2 Breakfast

Scrambled eggs (eggs, minimal oil, ketchup) 5/10

  • Simply tasteless
  • Pieces were no more than 2cm / 0.75 inch large
  • Just a vehicle for ketchup

Hash browns (potatoes, salted crispy coating) 9/10

  • Freshly fried and very crispy!
  • Soft potato interior
  • Could be larger and a little thicker

Water (spring water, ice cubes) 10/10

Yogurt (did not eat)

  • Individual servings

Oatmeal (plus fixings, brown sugar, raisins, seeds) 7/10

  • Rather thick
  • Fixing station was thoughtful

Condiments (whipped butter, raspberry and strawberry jam, maple syrup) 6/10

  • Basic pre-bought things

Orange juice 10/10

  • Freshly squeezed and cold
  • You can literally taste the pulp but it’s not there…if you know what I mean

Total rating: 6/10

  • Mostly the scrambled eggs’ fault
  • Nobody felt full after this meal
  • Everything else was nice

Day 2 Lunch

Burrito (tortilla, sour cream, guacamole, pulled barbecue pork, shredded cheese) 10/10

  • Barbecue pork was tender and sweet and juicy
  • So many fixings to choose from
  • Large tortilla
  • Overall it was really tasty and hearty, as there was a lot of meat

Water (spring water, ice cubes) 10/10

Total rating: 9.5/10

  • That’s it, no side dishes?
  • Or a beverage?

Day 2 Dinner

Pasta (corkscrew pasta, thin white sauce with cheese) 7/10

  • Undercooked– the pasta was still chewy
  • The white sauce had a nice flavour, but it was too runny
  • Cheese really elevated the white sauce’s flavour
  • I’d still eat it again though

Garlic bread (toasted bread, butter, garlic, parsley) 8/10

  • Soft but not crispy
  • Mild taste

Peas 7/10

  • Just cooked plain peas
  • No seasoning

‘Cheesecake’ (chocolate cream cheese filling, chocolate cookie crust) 3/10

  • This is not cheesecake.
  • Crust is also as hard as a rock
  • The filling was sour??
  • Just a slight touch of chocolate flavour

Water (spring water, ice cubes) 10/10

Total rating: 6/10

  • The sauce could be thicker and creamier and the pasta was undercooked
  • That was the worst dessert I’ve ever had

Day 2 Snack

Oreos 4/10

  • Store bought and love-free

Fruits (whole oranges, apples, bananas) 5/10

  • Not fresh and bruised
  • Everything was whole and uncut

Total rating: 2/10

  • Camp food should be fresh food, to say the least
  • The staff forgot…it was served 2 hours late

Day 3 Breakfast

Pancakes (pancakes, thick dairy topping, berry jam) 9/10

  • Nice and soft and subtly sweet
  • It needs to be way thicker

Dairy topping (sweet, creamy) 10/10

  • Whatever they put in there was delicious
  • Sweet and creamy and rather thick

Bacon (thick cut, with salt) 2.5/10

  • Meets the minimal requirements of bacon
  • Super hard and chewy
  • Extremely salty
  • Thick pieces and not crispy at all!

Yogurt (did not eat)

  • If you like yogurt you will…like yogurt. Need I say more?

Oatmeal (plus fixings, brown sugar, raisins, seeds) (did not eat)

  • Check my earlier review

Condiments (whipped butter, raspberry and strawberry jam, maple syrup) 8/10

Orange juice 9.75/10

  • Amazing. Splendid. Excellent.
  • We got orange juice yesterday though.
  • I know, I sound like a brat

Water (spring water, ice cubes) 9/10

Total rating: 7/10

  • Improve the bacon and it would be way better

Day 3 Lunch

Scalloped potatoes (potatoes, creamy sauce, pepper) 9/10

  • Sauce was so creamy
  • It needed some more salt
  • The crispy pepper top was a nice touch

Peas (7/10)

  • Peas…plain peas…yet again!!

Ham (large slices, no skin) 9/10

  • Great texture, perfect saltiness level
  • A little rubbery in a bite or two
  • Served lukewarm

Assorted vegetables (carrots, celery, cucumber) 7/10

  • About two days old

Orange juice 10/10

Water (spring water, ice cubes) 8/10

Total rating: 6/10

  • Potatoes were great but everything else was underwhelming
  • Peas and ham were definitely rushed
  • This was the last meal before we left… not a very good lasting impression

Notes

The food served at Camp Squeah earned a solid 7/10. Though some items were delicious, the consistency in the deliciousness was very low.
