History
A priest, Valentine, who lived in Rome, was imprisoned for secretly holding weddings long ago. Emperor Claudius II in the 3rd century AD, forbid soldiers to marry because he had a thought that unmarried soldiers fought better in war than married ones. Valentine refused to follow the rule and he secretly married couples. Later, Valentine was discovered and he was brought up to the emperor to reannounce what he would do. Valentine refused, and he was sentenced to die. He was sent to prison, but fell in deep love with the jailer’s daughter. He wrote a letter to her, signing it with “Your Valentine”.
On February 14, Valentine was executed. From then on, every February 14, which became Valentine’s Day, people showed love to others as a sign that Valentine did nothing wrong. People give each others gifts, and cards, signing them with “Your Valentine”, just how Valentine signed the letter he gave to the daughter. To conclude, Valentine’s Day was created when a priest named Valentine secretly married couples and was killed on February 14.
