In a bustling modern city, there lived a curious young girl named Quinn. Quinn was an extremely academically intelligent student. Unfortunately, the rest of the Wells family only considered the physically talented children skilled. No one was surprised when Quinn was often seen alone while the rest of her family were out, enjoying the weather. Quinn nearly always spent quality time in her room, filled with packed bookshelves, piles of scrap paper, and hand-crafted devices from common junk.
The Wells were so athletic and well-trained that reporters and famous people were in their house all day, making Quinn stay shut up in her bedroom and “not present herself” to the guests. That didn’t bother Quinn. She stayed in her room, reading, calculating, and building. But everyone would run out of things to do someday. She gazed out of her stained window, dreaming of a chance to show her own unique skills in the spotlight.
So Quinn used her current knowledge to design and create a mini robot, named Robo. She waited for the right chance one evening, after all of the guests had left, to invite her family to look at her masterpiece. They were deeply impressed by the creation, and paused for a brief moment to compliment her lightly. Quinn felt extremely joyful.
But then, a few of Quinn’s younger siblings were playing around while the parents’ eyes weren’t fixed on them, and got a mild electric shock from a large wire split in half. Quinn’s parents rushed to the scene, glaring at Quinn like someone who wouldn’t belong. Trudging upstairs, she went to bed and made an idea later. She decided to make some treats as an energy boost after they played extreme sports. Rushing to the library, she found a beautiful cookie recipe and spent all afternoon making them. The result wasn’t as acceptable, but Quinn enjoyed one while taste testing and shared them with the rest of the Wells. The Wells bit into the cookies, but Quinn had over-mixed portions of the batter. THe one she had taste tested was from the good batter, while the ones the Wells ate had the overmixed batter and were hard and nearly broke teeth. The athletic Wells grumbled and went back to training.
Determined, Quinn bought a painting set and began painting. She painted a pretty picture of her family and hung it up on the wall, signing it with her beloved signature on the bottom. The Wells came home one day and saw her painting. Quinn’s parents were impressed, but her siblings weren’t. They didn’t like it, and demanded for it to be taken off the wall. So Quinn went back to her room, and learned how to sew. She practiced sewing for a long time and suffered deep gashes from needles. But Quinn and sewed a good soft football and let her family have it. The siblings enjoyed it, throwing it in the garden. But her parents disapproved of it, thinking that regular, hard footballs were better. Sighing, Quinn decided to take a break and focus on academics.
Quinn studied hard. She worked her way up, and found ways to make connections with things that she learned. With the new gained information, she learned to sew, bake cookies, and paint with math, English, science and social studies. Her family recognized her ambition. Quinn learned that she didn’t have to be exactly like them – she could just blend them until they were satisfactory.
